MIM teaches you the basics of Skincare

Practical tips that will bring well-being and ease to your daily routine.

To offer solutions, we start from the basics. At MIM Skin, we seek to connect with our community by sharing medical and educational knowledge that is evidenced in daily life, from general use to treatments and makeup for different occasions.

Starting from the previous, there is something called the active ingredient vs. vehicle, where it will be important to choose the right products according to your skin type, needs, and the area to be treated, such as face, body, scalp, among others. It’s important to consider not only the active ingredients (medication) but also the type of vehicle.

When we talk about active ingredients, we refer to the main "component" of a product, for example: Vitamins, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Salicylic Acid, Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Glycolic Acid, among others.

On the other hand, when we refer to the vehicle, we associate it with the form or texture in which this active ingredient is transported, for example: Gel, Cream, Emulsion, Serum, Lotion, Spray.

A vitamin C (active ingredient) can come in serum, but also in cream or gel (vehicle), so which should we choose?

There lies the key – it depends on our skin type. For example, if we have oily skin, we can use vitamin C in serum or gel, but not in cream. All serums have different active ingredients.

  • Cream: Semi-solid texture, water in oil-based, ideal for dry skin, without acne tendency. Also for mature skin, on the body when a moisturizing effect is desired.

  • Gel: Transparent and jelly-like, liquid on contact with the skin, ideal for oily skin with acne tendency.

  • Serum: Light and watery texture with a high concentration of active ingredients with quick absorption. Ideal for all skin types. My favorite vehicle without a doubt.

  • Lotion: Liquid and dry, ideal for oily skin and areas such as the scalp.

  • Emulsion: Light texture, oil-free, quickly absorbed. Can be used on all skin types.

With this short but practical guide, you can choose the most suitable texture for you, thus defining your needs and subsequent benefits. Would you like to then identify your type to define your essentials? Remember that you can receive personalized advice from our specialized team. At MIM, health and well-being are within everyone's reach.
